Both charging stands offer a dedicated place to stow and charge your Meta Quest 2. The Premium Edition LED stand helps to also present the Quest 2 and its controllers on its glowing clear plastic plinths.
The HiBloks Magnetic Charging Dock for Quest 2 is mostly dedicated to stowing your Touch controllers, whilst keeping them charged up and ready for action. A spare USB-A port at the back allows the bundled braided cable to also charge your Quest 2, yet the headset would just need to sit somehow nearby or as long as the 1m cable will get to it.
So in short, if stowing and charging your controllers is more important than charging the Quest 2 headset, this Magnetic Charging Station from HiBloks could be the charging stand for you.
If you want something a little more bright and presentable, then the HiBloks LED Charging Stand for Quest 2 may be something more up your street. Once pieced together, your Quest 2 headset and Touch controllers sit proudly on top of three clear plastic plinths, whilst colourful LED lights emit through their edges to make the whole stand come alive with glowing LED light.
Up to 7 colours are supported on this charging stand, and there are 3 modes that allow you to present these colours in a rather calming way. The first is colour cycle mode, in which all the available colours glow and blend infinitely into each other. At the speed each colour changes, you always catch a different colour that’s about to change into a new one. In Breathing mode, you set the stand, via its stand button, to display one of the 7 available colours and it will gradually glow this colour from 0% to 100% over a few seconds, before dimming again back to 0% and it repeats this effect – it’s rather calming.
Finally, you have a Monochrome mode that lets you select a single colour and have it stay lit in the chosen colour at all times, or until the power is turned off on the stand, or at the wall power plug.
Between all these modes, you should find something that will suit your VR gaming den. All controllers and headsets sit on the stand fairly well. However, if you have a heavy head strap or knuckle straps on your controllers, you might struggle with their placement on this stand.
The holes in the controller side platforms are just big enough to pass the controller handle and its charging cable through, but it will not accommodate a controller with an attached knuckle strap. The same goes with a rear heavy head strap on your headset. Without a deep enough platform to the middle resting ledge, the headset will tilt backwards and not sit as intended on the ledge. The provided charging cable also gets in the way of the right controller, which could have been avoided if the cable had an elbow joint connector instead.
As nice as the Premium stand is to look at, with the USB cables and reattaching all the awkward magnetic adapters back onto the controllers every time you’re finished using your Quest 2, it makes it all more of a nuisance and a chore. If HiBlocks merged their magnetic controllers with the premium stand, we might have something a little better overall. But for me, this is something I would pass on.
