In this video, I check out the Ponywalk Elite Strap with a 6,000mAh Battery.
You can buy the head strap for $44.99 from Amazon US ➡️ https://amzn.to/3zLBHgh – It isn’t selling currently in the UK or DE.
If Kiwi design and the Aubika battery strap had a baby, this Ponywalk battery strap would be the result. They have taken the best of both and smashed them into one great head strap that sells at a very competitive price.
Installation is super easy, the side rails clip in reassuringly well, and the balance is ok, not perfect, but it does the job well. At the back is a 6,000mAh battery pack built into the strap, which will give you around 5-6 hours of total playtime along with your Quest 2 battery.
Tap the button on the battery section of the strap will light up the four LED lights that indicate 25% each of the battery’s current charged state, whilst these will flash whilst the strap is being charged itself. Double tapping the button will turn off the battery charging of the strap, meaning you have full control of when to charge the Quest 2, which I like.
Along the side, you’ll notice the pivot points of this strap. Like the Kiwi design Elite Strap they don’t pivot lower, instead, they lock in place, which I am relieved to see. There is some wiggle movement when down before they lock upwards, but it isn’t enough to ruin the whole experience of this strap.
Flipping the strap up is great for speaking to anyone nearby without taking your headset fully off. You can grab a drink or a snack, and simply sliding the headset back down means you have less to no time having to readjust the headset on your face.
At the top, there is a PU leather strap, which isn’t padded like the Kiwi head strap, but the quality of it is decent and it’s wipeable when it gets sweaty or full of head product stains.
At the back is a familiar Elite strap-style PU head pad. It is the same size, so it fits the head well if a little high for me. The good thing about being this generic size is that it can fit the VR Cover foam pad. Plus it will fit in many Quest 2 cases without the need to replace the back part of the strap, as you need to on the Kiwi in many cases, due to its larger size.
There is a lot to like about this strap, and then you realise how cheap the strap is selling for. At $44.99 + 5% off with their coupon on Amazon US, that is $10-20 cheaper than Kiwi’s own non-battery strap, it’s more than half the cost of an official Elite Strap with Battery. So if you’re on the lookout for a decent Elite strap with battery, you really can’t go wrong with this strap from Ponywalk.
