Oculus Quest to Feature 128GB Option – Amazon Confirms Price at $499

We already know that the Oculus Quest will be launching in a few months with a single 64GB model, however, your options have now changed with the confirmation of a 128GB model.

The 128GB model was first leaked on Amazon, however, Facebook confirmed with UploadVR that the 128GB model option will come also at the launch of the Quest.

This isn’t anything new for standalone VR headsets from Oculus. The Oculus Go also comes in two flavours, a 32GB and a 64GB model. So, with the Oculus Quest being a game-specific headset, extra storage over the Oculus Go makes sense to me, because games usually feature a much larger file size, and you’ll fill that space in no time if a 32GB Quest was the based model.

It’s unfortunate that the Quest will not carry an SD card slot to expand its base storage, however, Facebook is apparently working on the ability to use USB storage as an option – just as long as you don’t mind a USB-C drive sticking out from your Quest.

With games on the Oculus Go being in the region of 500MB to 1.5GB, the 64GB model may be enough for most gamers, however, if you’re going to load movies and media on the Quest storage, you might want to pay the )(Amazon expected) $100 extra for the Oculus Quest 128GB model.

If you look at some games coming to the Quest from the Rift, such as The Climb (11GB), Robo Recall (5.2GB) and Moss (6.6GB), the story is slightly different. With that said, though, these games will likely carry reduced texture resolution and possibly higher compressed audio, both cases for bloated filesizes in game development. I expect half to a quarter of the above-mentioned filesizes once they are on the Quest.

I am sure we will not hear prices until F8 on April 30th, but with the Oculus Quest 64GB price being set at $399, if we mirror Oculus Go’s ~25% price scale factor, expect the Oculus Quest 128Gb model to be around $499. By listing the products using affiliated banners (below) you will uncover the $499 price tag for the 128GB model, which isn’t displayed on the main page.

As soon as we hear more confirmed prices, we will let you know. Just don’t expect it from Oculus any time soon.
