September saw a number of exciting announcements, most of all was the announcement of the Oculus Quest 2. This new next-generation headset replaces the current Oculus Quest, which has only been alive for 1.5 years and is now cast to eBay and cupboards when the Quest 2 releases on 13th October along with a number of recommended Oculus Quest 2 accessories.
We also heard that the Rift S will also discontinued in 2021 by Oculus, who will focus its VR efforts on its standalone headset, which will also see periodical improvements with Oculus Link for PCVR gaming.
Facebook-gate continues to dominate the headlines in September, which tarnishes the appeal of the Oculus Quest and Quest 2, which both will require you to log into and sync up your Facebook account. Personally I don’t see this as much of an issue when you consider Apple and Google accounts are also needed for their own devices. But if this truly concerns you there are plenty of other VR headsets out there to jump over to.
September Releases
Gaming wise, we saw some great new releases in September. The headline game goes to SOLARIS OFFWORLD COMBAT, which takes the top spot at the end of this month. Being a premium multiplayer game with an Echo VR-like aesthetic, it shows how popular multiplayer is on Quest. Onward also continues to bolster multiplayer titles on Quest as it holds on to its second-place position at the end of this month. Finally, wrapping up the end of the month we have Until You Fall, a stellar PCVR game that has been faithfully ported to the Quest.
