October has flown by so fast that we found ourselves a few days into November already before we realised we were long overdue our look at the last month on Oculus Quest. So here goes…
So October was a big month for Oculus Quest, most of all, it was the release month of its new brother – Oculus Quest 2. The next-generation of standalone VR launched on October 13, 2020, and with it, we saw record-breaking numbers of sales and downloads for various Quest titles. Read what we think of the Oculus Quest 2 in our review.
October also brought a number of recommended Oculus Quest 2 accessories, however, it’s Elite Headstrap has faced a number of problems, with quite a few owners sharing stress-cracked headbands. This has forced Oculus/Facebook to put a halt on orders and production. For us though, our Elite Strap is doing just fine. Just be sure that if attaching a cable for Oculus Link to it, make sure you don’t attach it too firmly to the headband. Also make sure you pick up the headset by the headset itself and not from the Elite Strap, which is very easy to do and almost make sure you unscrew the back of the strap enough to remove your head from it.
VR Cover also teased its new face cover kit for the Quest 2 but more recently, they encountered issues with the foam pads leaving marks on people’s faces. They have taken swift action of this and I am pleased to announce that the kit will now be available towards the end of November. They have now released a new Silicone Cover, Cloth Cover and Lens Covers for the Quest 2. You can also watch what we think about the VR Cover over here.
Gaming wise, October saw a few big hit games release on the Quest. The most popular, ahem, is the highly anticipated multiplayer title POPULATION: ONE. Touted as the Fortnite of the VR world, POPULATION: ONE screamed into the charts and continues to dominate the top of the chart (behind Beat Saber, of course). The Walking Dead Saints & Sinners is another stellar title that released on the mobile headset with a very faithful port of the PCVR title. REZ Infinite, Dash Dash World and Blair Witch round-up October’s hit line-up of titles on the Quest.
