As the last sun sets for 2020, that wraps up the month of December, and what has been a strongly bizarre year for most of us. Before we look ahead into 2021 and what great things are coming to the Quest, we must look back at December and what happened on the portable VR platform.
Official Oculus Quest 2 accessory issues come to an end in December with the Oculus Elite Headstrap coming back in stock, now with a 2-year warranty should it break for any new owners. To me, that sounds like they didn’t really fix the strap and are willing to replace any that do. But if its past history has put you off, there are plenty of alternative straps and cushions beginning to release for the Quest 2. You can grab a cheap Halo Strap for your Quest 2 instead. Watch our review of the Halo Strap and what we thought about it.
VR Cover started to get more stock in and released a number of new accessories, such as a Winter Edition of its new face cover kit for the Quest 2, along with new cotton covers and silicone covers for the Quest 2. All of which we have covered on the site and on our YouTube channel.
It’s hard to think Half-Life Alyx kicked off 2020, yet PCVR continues to shine with the release of Star Wars Squadrons last month, and this month saw Medal of Honor release, and also Microsoft Flight Simulator received a FREE VR update for its cutting-edge flight sim too.
All in all, though, December felt a little shy of big news for the Quest. Oculus really took its foot off the gas after the launch of its new Quest 2. Let’s hope next month and beyond we will see the excitement return and we hear new and greater things for the VR platform and for the Quest as a whole.
Just a quick mention of our YouTube Channel. We slowly grew from our 500 subscribers last month to release a smashing 827 subscribers in December. This does seem very small compared to the bigger VR YouTubers out there, it would have been great to reach 1000 by the end of the year, but I will take what we can get. I appreciate all the great questions and comments that you have sent in on the Channel. In 2021 I hope to continue to bring fresh new accessories and gameplay content to the channel. If you’ve not yet subscribed, please do, as it will really help the Channel grow stronger and give me the opportunity to bring you more unique VR content.
Quest Game Releases in December
Gaming wise, December wasn’t that much of an improvement over November’s dire lists of four titles. You would have thought Oculus would have a cracking holiday line-up of titles ready for new owners that received an Oculus Quest 2 headset under their Christmas tree, but I am sure the pandemic had something to do with release dates not being met this year.
This month saw a handful of decent releases, from Jurrasic Park Aftermath, Contractors, and MYST (for anyone that’s over the age of 35). I guess people still have Population: One to keep them busy, and there was also a wealth of game updates that released in December. Arizona Sunshine received a new Horde mode map, whilst Synth Riders, Pistol Whip, and Beat Saber also saw music pack updates that increased the depth of the titles.
