How to: Update and check your Oculus Quest firmware

Share

Thanks to the Oculus Quest being a standalone VR headset, there is only one device you need think about when it comes to updating your headset – the Quest itself.

Since its first firmware update at launch, to its latest just three weeks after, Oculus is regularly updating its headset via a downloadable firmware update. Firmware updates commonly address any number of software bugs, they add new features and performance is also improved along the way.

Whilst there isn’t a way to directly force the latest update on to your Oculus Quest, your Oculus Quest is automatically set up to receive these updates as and when they become available to the public.

How to update your Oculus Quest

To make sure your Quest carries the latest update of features and bug fixes you need to make sure your device is set up to receive automatic updates. You can check or do this by following these simple steps in the Oculus App:

Automatic Updates on the Oculus Quest

Currently, the Automatic Updates option is not displaying on either iOS or Android versions of the app. Having seen this option before, it is either a setting that appears when a new firmware displays or it’s a live option that Oculus has hidden in the app. If you know how to display this option again, let us know in the comments.

  1. Power up your Oculus Quest and open the Oculus App on your phone
  2. Select the Settings option in the bottom menu of the Oculus App
  3. Select your Oculus Quest from the list of detected devices
  4. Select the More Settings option
  5. Select the Advanced Settings option
  6. Make sure the switch for Update Software Automatically is on
